Mallorca is one of the most popular places to bike in Europe, attracting both pros (apparently a favourite destination for team Skye) and touring cyclists, who come for the climate, beaches and endless riding options. Starting from Palma our itinerary includes moderate rides through the traditional countryside of Mallorca, into (and over) the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range (declared World Heritage by UNESCO) which is dotted with charming villages, and finishing in the beachside town of Porto de Pollenca. The hotels are fabulous and the food is exquisite. This island paradise is yours to discover.

Getting There You can reach Palma by air through Madrid, Barcelona and many other cities in Europe. The easiest way to reach the hotel in Palma is by taxi and these can be found on arrival outside the airport.

1

Day 1

Start your exploration of Palma by strolling through the historic center or to the beach; Ca’n Pere Antoni is a favourite city beach among locals who flock here to stretch out on the fine white sand and soak up the sun. Dine at one of our recommended restaurants;  in addition to the michelin starred options, tucked away in the old town is Toque de Queda, a 15th-century bakery turned tapas restaurant and bar where sharing charcuterie and cheese platters and cervezas are served at communal tables. Or head to Duke set up by a pair of local surfer friends more than a decade ago, which has a global menu ranging from Thai curries and ramen noodles to gourmet burgers.

2

Day 2

Cycle east along dedicated bike paths that follows the southern coast past beaches to S’Arenal, Cala Blava and a splendid viewpoint at Cap Blanc before turning north along quiet roads through citrus groves and past fincas. Add-on climb to Puig de Randa if you are so inclined (pardon the pun). If you want to instead explore the hilly western side of the island, another alternative is a loop into the Western Sierra with climbs to Galilea and Andratx, then to Banyalbufar alongthe western coast before descending back to Palma.
Ride Distance: 53km; 360m or 84 km, gain 1600 m.*

3

Day 3

Ride on bike lanes from Palma towards Palmanyola and Santa Maria del Cami to Alaro, where the famous Cycling Planet café awaits; can there be a more cycling friendly place to enjoy a cup of coffee? Once caffeinated, climb up to Orient and the restaurant Dalt Muntanya for lunch on their superb terrace. Then on (and up) over Col de Soller, where you may be tempted to stop at Ca’n Topa Café, filled with photos of pro cyclists who stop here for Paula’s carrot cake. Descend to Soller, perhaps the most picturesque village on the island.

Ride Distance D3: 36 km, elevation gain 888 m or 80 km, gain 2000 m.*

4

Day 4

On this day, the regular ride is a loop around the Valldemossa and then along the coast to Deija and back to Soller. The add-on (or a shorter loop if desired) is to Port de Soller with idyllic setting on the coast. If you don’t make it there by bike, don’t worry, you can take a historic (c 1912) train car to Port de Soller for dinner at Patiki Beach, a farm-to-table chiringuito.

Ride Distance D4: 52 km, elevation gain 1140 m. Add-on option: 20km; 400m*

5

Day 5

Start the day with an invigorating climb to the charming village of Fornalutx where you can stop at a cool bakery. The climb continues up and over col de Puig Major. If you want to challenge yourself on Sa Calobra, this is an option- you’ll get bragging rights from us! Enjoy a glorious descent to Pollenca and Port de Pollenca beachside village and gateway to Cap Formentor.

Ride Distance D5: 60 km, elevation gain 1200m or 35km; 315m (with shuttle)*

6

Day 6

Arguably the most beautiful ride on Mallorca, treat yourself to the ride of your life out to Cap Formentor. Have more jam? Ride up Col de Femenia to the Lluc monastery and descend to Campanet before returning to Port de Pollenca on a beachside path.

Ride Distance D6: 40 km, elevation gain 1300 m or 74 km, gain 1170m.*

7

Day 7

Depart at your leisure for onward travel. Buses depart frequently (travel time 1h15; cost 13€) Taxis from Porta de Pollenca to the airport at Palma take 40 minutes and cost 120€.

*Distance and elevation gains may vary depending on hotels chosen for specific departure.
