Cycling 8 Days

Imagine the Mediterranean the way it used to be, in a country that has all the essential elements for the perfect cycling vacation- quiet roads, an abundance of historical sites and now, wonderful hotels and restaurants to enjoy.

This trip begins in Split. Afer one night discovering the secrets of this historical city, you will ferry to the island of Brac, the largest of the Dalmatian islands and notable for the karst rock, a supple white stone that sculptors have used for centuries here. Stay in Bol, a short stroll fom the famous Zlatni Rat beaches.

Afer two days exploring Brac, cruise by gulet to the island of Hvar, perhaps the most interesting of the Dalmatian islands. Designed and built by Venetians, Hvar feels distinctly Italian; Hvar is becoming the destination of choice for yacht owners (Barry Dillar’s 103m vessel was in the harbour on our last visit). You’ll have two days in Hvar, with enough time to cycle the island’s routes and explore its hidden treasures. From Hvar, we provide a private speed-boat transfer to Korcula, where a quiet and spectacular cyclists dream road (very few, if any cars) leads you to the town of Korcula. Afer an overnight in this charming village, you will awake and cruise about a fast catamaran to Dubrovnik. This tour offers the opportunity to cycle on three islands, and to see each of Split and Dubrovnik.

Day 1
Split - This tour begins in the historical city of Split which boasts a Roman palace in its center, and a labyrinthe of cobblestone streets flled with cafes and restaurants. Stroll through town and dine in one of our favourite restaurants - we share our rolodex with you… Hotel choices include Hotel Luxe (Classic); Le Meridien, or Vestibul Palace (Luxe).

Day 2

Bol - After meeting our local Area Manager and ftting bikes, board the ferry at Split Harbour at 11:00 am; the cruise to Brac will take just under 1 hour. After lunch at one of Supetar’s beach- side restaurants, you cycle to the lovely beach-side village of Bol, where delectable restaurants and a favourite wine bar await. The iconoclastic beaches of the Golden Cape are steps away. Hotel choices include Hotel Elaphusa (Classic) or Deskovic Palace (Luxe). Distance: 37 km; gain 960m.*

Day 3
Bol- Next day, ride a loop route visiting Pucisca, with its stone cutting school and Skrip, the oldest settlement on the island. The island of Brac is covered in olive and fg trees and charming village harbours dot the coast.
Distance: 21 km; 325 m or 42 km, gain 965 m or 82 km, gain 1725 m.*

Day 4
Hvar– You’ll cross to Hvar by private boat, arriving to the charming village of Jelsa where you will start cycling to Hvar town. Hvar town has been compared to Cannes, where yachts line the harbor and well-preserved Venetian buildings, a hill-top castle and Europe’s oldest theatre make for a charming town. Hotel choices include Villa Nora (Classic) or Hotel Podstine (Luxe). Distance: 27 km; 550 m gain

Day 5

Hvar– You can cycle as little or as much as you like today. Afternoon options include a short boat ride to the Pakleni Islands, kayaking along the coast with a guide, hike up to the Venetian citadel, or relax and enjoy the comforts of the hotel. (optional activities available on request - not included in your tour) We have arranged for a late afternoon walk with a wonderful guide today, where you’ll learn about the fascinating history of this town and visit its monuments. Distance: 60 km; 1270 m gain

Day 6
Korcula– Today you will depart Hvar on a private boat for the town of Vela Lukla on Korcula. From here, you will cycling a spectacular coastal road that reaches Korcula town on the east end of the island. The town’s Italian heritage is evident (it is said that Marco Polo was born here) and we provide recommendations for dining and sights to see. Hotel choices include Hotel de la Ville (Classic) or Hotel Lumbarda (Luxe). Distance: 36 km; 460 m gain

Day 7
Dubrovnik – You can sleep in today or wake early for one more morning ride, before transferring by fast catamaran to Dubrovnik, described as a “Venetian Gothic marvel. Columned porticoes and loggias rim marble-paved Renaissance squares bufed to a sheen by centuries of foot trafc.” You can join a walking tour or seek out one of the hidden cafes where you can swim, sip or just people- watch. There really is no place quite like Dubrovnik. Hotel choices include Hotel Lapad (Classic) or Hilton Imperial (Luxe). Distance: 28 km; 545 m gain

Day 8
Departure day– Depart at your leisure. Buses depart from the Pile Gate to the airport frequently.

*Distance and elevation gains may vary depending on hotels chosen for specific departure.

"Just wanted to pass along how much Glen and I enjoyed our bike trip in Croatia.  It was outstanding - the locations, the hotels, but especially your contacts. We were well taken care of and everything went smoothly.  The bike routes were challenging, but very enjoyable and allowed us to truly see the countryside.  We absolutely loved it and look forward to our next bike excursion."
