About Self-Guided Vacations
One of the hallmarks of booking with Randonnée Tours is that you have a choice in accommodation level. We offer three levels, something for every taste (and budget).
This level is for travelers who enjoy distinctive, comfortable and charming inns and hotels that are the best in their class – typically 3&4 star. Often family managed, and always memorable, many are recommended as a top choice by reputed guidebooks and travel journalists (and savvy travelers). Have a look at Hotel Healdsburg on our Napa trip, or the Masseria Donnaloia on our Puglia trip; or Cashel House Hotel in Ireland; Albergaria do Calvario, Évora on our Portugal trip. You will get the idea- these are truly memorable hotels.
We know that some travelers like to stay in what we often describe as smart-casual accommodation that is typically an attractive b&b or small inn. Each of Randonnée’s picks at this level is unique, comfortable, and friendly. Many travelers who stay in this class are ‘wowed’ with how impressive a casual inn can be. Visit L' Evêché in Vaison-La-Romaine on our Provence trip; Moulin de la Beune on our Dordogne trip; Pension Berc in Bled on our Slovenia trip and you’ll get the idea.
Randonnée chooses luxurious hotels that are the best-in-class in the Luxury category, typically 4 star (and sometimes 5 star) hotels with larger guest rooms, swimming pools, spas, fine dining rooms etc. Each of our Luxe category choices are highly rated, exceptional hotels. Examples would be Chateau Mazan in Provence, Hotel Montelauro in Puglia, Domaine Tortiniere in the Loire Valley, the Post Hotel in the Canadian Rockies and Hastings House Hotel in the Gulf Islands. Have a peak at any of these and you probably can't imagine more luxurious accommodation. Go ahead; you deserve it.
Premier Deluxe Hotels
We have decided to introduce this level for truly exceptional one-of-a-kind hotels that meet our strict criteria for the highest level of luxury, hospitality and amenities. Typically 5 star rated, many are members of Relais & Chateaux and Small Luxury Hotels (SLH) of the World and other distinguished associations. Whether at Napa Valley’s Auberge du Soleil, Provence’s Crillon le Brave, or Amalfi Coast’s Sirenuse, you will experience the very best in the world’s great hotels.
Note about included meals: Included dinners are sometimes in the hotel dining room and often the restaurants are as renowned as the hotel. As you might expect, the higher level lodging have a higher level of restaurant & meal service. In some cases, the restaurant is an important factor in why we choose the accommodation. On occasion, included dinners are at a particularly special restaurant outside the hotel and we provide a voucher to make it all seamless. Examples are Domaine Camerette on our Provence trips and Trattoria da Fiorella in Pienza, Tuscany.
What’s a ‘single supplement’?
Since our prices
are based on a double occupancy (two people per room), a person who
requires a private room is applied a single supplement. The amount
depends on the cost of the accommodations and represents the fraction
of the room that would have been paid by another traveler if the room
We want you to choose the level of accommodation best suited to your desires. We have tried to provide pertinent information on each of the accommodations so you have a sense of the location (in town, or outside of town), whether there is a restaurant at the property (or how far it is to the nearest), whether there is a swimming pool, spa or other amenities etc. Many of the properties come recommended by guidebooks, and other travel sites, but more than anything, we use our own research and experience to determine if it is suitable. If there is a potential negative, we want to be upfront about it. Please refer to the descriptions for each property on the accommodation page linked to the itinerary for further information.
